About The Hen House
Thank you for being a part of our beautiful mess!
Like you, we’re chicken people. Not “we have a couple of birds for the eggs” people. We’re “there is a hen on the porch rail and she has opinions” people. Since 2021, we’ve been raising backyard chickens and being constantly fascinated by them, their behaviors, their intelligence, and their downright bossiness!
How this started
We went looking for chicken merch and found two options. The first was corny and homespun: gingham, cursive, and a rooster wearing a tiny hat. The second was a cartoon chicken making a pun we’d already heard a thousand times at the feed store.
Neither one looked like our actual lives, which are much more interesting. Our reality involves a hen who’s convinced the compost pile is hers, a flock that literally thinks it owns our entire property, and an egg basket that’s overflowing enough to give eggs to all our neighbors (which, admittedly, are few up here in the mountains of Colorado).
We wanted shirts that were elegant, beautiful, and funny, all in the same garment. Since we couldn’t find what we wanted, we made it ourselves.
What we make
Everything here starts with a hen you could frame. We want you to be comfortable wearing our tees when you’re out shopping, meeting a friend for lunch, on the school run, and, of course, reporting for coop duty. They’re comfortable, beautiful, and they will get a laugh from the other chicken people you encounter while you’re out and about.
Our tees are printed in the U.S. on ethically grown and harvested American cotton, and the fabric is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, which means it’s been tested for harmful substances. Our apparel is soft, safe, and responsibly made.
We know chicken keeping is a family affair, so we make shirts for the whole flock. Babies and kids love to proclaim their love for the chickens as loudly as you do!
